The Wicked Symphony "
The beginning of the song consists of "The Wicked Symphony" consists of an orchestral, worn intro, which is reminiscent of the movie soundtrack of "Lord of the Rings" or "Pirates of the Caribbean" and creates a dramatic entrance. Massive then put orchestra and rock band after about 1.5 minutes and created a bombastic rockers in a class with Jorn and Russell Allen as guest vocalist. 5/5 stars
"Wastelands"
Pure Power Metal. A number that has probably Tobi (ex-Helloween) posted his idol Michael Kiske on the body. Great chorus, gigantic guitar solo and two singers who outdo themselves in the high tones try * g *. 5/5 stars
"Scales of Justice"
After two more melodic metal numbers there are the wide side of heavy guitars. A violent Stampfer mid-paced, the Scream Machine Tim "Ripper" Owens (ex-Judas Priest / ex-Iced Earth) is refined. A banger par excellence. 5/5 stars.
"Dying For An Angel"
What do you do if you won the front shouter the Scorpions as a guest? That's right, a melodic hard rockers like in Germany's best hard rock band has thrown en masse in the eighties on the market. Very large rock Entertaiment. 5/5 stars.
"Blizzard On A Broken Mirror"
Tobi solo. A dreamy keyboard intro, then a massive main riff. Then quiet verses and bombastic chorus. A great song that has a really genials guitar solo. 5/5 stars.
"Runaway Train"
A mini-opera in and of itself. The 9minĂ¼tige masterpiece is the highlight of the album for me. Bob Catley is singing the first part with his beautiful voice accompanied only by subtle strings and piano. Then the work goes into power rock ballad as they z.Bsp. by Meat Loaf ("I would do anything for love") knows. Really great, especially here three completely different but perfectly harmonious singers share the song: The pleasant baritone of Bob Catley, the soulful rock Reibweisen of Jorn and the melodic Tobi in the higher elevations. 5/5 stars.
"Crestfallen"
The Eighties are greeting. Keyboard sounds combined with heavy guitars. A mega-sound layer lies behind the whole song, the refrain is almost gothic-like through the lugubrious choir. In Tobni chasing his voice through all the moods. Gigantic. 5/5 stars
"Forever Is A Long Time"
Reminds thanks Hammond organ and already scratchy guitar 70s rock. Rock grater Jorn singing fantastic, but a weak song. Does not hurt, but is nothing special. 3/5 stars.
"Black Wings"
This piece is not really convincing, despite heavy guitars and good rhythm work. But at least the chorus is quite catchy. 3/5 stars
Conclusion
Tobias Sammet has evolved. Instead of a power metal song to hang on the other (see "The Metal Opera - Part I & II") he expanded his musical boundaries here. Rock, blues, melodic metal, heavy metal, classical, pop - Sammet well acquainted with the musical spice rack and can combine well. Despite the many influences and the different singers and instrumentalists there Tobi creates each piece to make his mark, so that the numbers are different, but still carry a certain manuscript.
"The Wicked Symphony" is at least for me the highlight of the year Metal and one of the best albums that came in recent years in this genre on the market. Those who have a penchant for metal and rock should access.
