The whole point of the book lies in the deconstruction of another well established and modern nonsense that is "sustainable development" or "green growth". Because some very clever people think that to end inequality and the destruction of nature simply repaint the green shop! Except that in "sustainable development" there 'development' which means to go digging deeper into resources even if it is to produce green. So unlike the catechism that we recite our environmental or eco-socialist politicians, the solution is not to consider an alter-development but to suppress development.
Globally, we should start by adopting an ethno-differentiality attitude (as opposed to ethnocentrism dominant), ie change our way of assessing "human development" or the satisfaction of a people. It is not because an African does not bear a pair of shoes at the foot he is unhappy! Similarly Educational, when we see the disaster are some NGOs that will implement in countries issues (gender theory, transsexualism, place of women ...) and Western lifestyles, it is appropriate to do hair! The Westernization of the world is unfortunately well advanced.
Latouche proposes concrete solutions in the end to advance to book a "growth society":
- Reduce (by volume) transport of men and goods
- Brush away excess advertising
- Reject planned obsolescence
- Recycle as much as possible
- Reduce working time in order that everyone works
- Produce and consume local
- Reducing the amount of electricity used
- Switch satisfaction criteria (voluntary simplicity friendliness + + strengthening all non-market social bonds) against the measure of "human development" measured by the number of thousands of dollars annually by residents.
Ultimately, the decrease is the only future of ecology and society tout court!
People who have read books by Serge Latouche will not learn much new from reading this book I therefore advise to the beginner to decay.
