I had bought the device as an extension of my Synology NAS DS212j
Unfortunately, this has only USB 2.0. But I had with external hard drives
Streaming and no problems so far on this unit.
Built in the ext. Housing I have 2 x 3TB hard drives (Seagate WD +) formatted both NTFS.
1x empty FP u. 1x FP 90% full.
The NAS has also recognized the housing, but access to the plates was not possible.
In the System Info of Nas the FP were expelled with a capacity of 365GB.
Have the device to my PC (Win 7, USB 2.0.) Connected, since tells me the PC
the FP would not formatted. System-Info were then on a capacity 365GB.
A FP removed and installed into an Ext USB 3.0 enclosure -. Infected - works
displayed is my full capacity.
Since I no PC with USB 3.0. Have connection, I could not test the housing!
I was already tuned to pack the housing again. A last attempt!
On the PC (empty FP) faulty partition deleted - incorporated plate into the housing again -
On Nas connected the housing and the plate there formatted with Nas tools (ext4).
Voila - FP now had almost 3TB spare capacity and was ready for use.
But what to do with the full FP ??? I then the whole content via PC - Network - Nas
to be copied to the now empty FP. Has indeed used for ages. Then selbige procedure
as with the first FP. Now work 2 x 3TB drives in the enclosure. The NAS can manage,
all good!
Conclusion:
I do not know whether it is related to the lack of USB 3.0 connector together, but my recommendation:
If you want to operate the device with USB 2.0, then use better empty FP.
Therefore, the device receives only 3 stars - 1x hood volume f u..
1x for the missing or deficient USB 2.0 compatibility
