Then comes the operating system and here you really have to make cuts. Who the device, like me, need not only as a toy, the soon finds several obstacles, which would not be in a notebook there. So one has to be aware that the iPad is not a computer replacement. Many works lassem relatively well realized (mail, write texts, conferences via Skype / GT, etc.) but who are not enough, the basic functions of the soon wants a less proprietary and more compatible system runs on the standard software. Here I have to give a point deduction, because if you buy a device for 500-800 EUR, one would expect more than a toy and a hand communicator.
One quickly realizes that the iPad is a multimedia device with a large display. The limitations of the iPod MacOS are still
felt stronger than at the tabletop and laptop versions.
Lastly, the incredibly strict DRM must not go unmentioned policy of Apple.
Actually one would have if one is consistently return the unit immediately after you try the first time on.
This DRM madness hears unfortunately never and who thinks that he can transfer any videos, photos and music between their computers and the iPad, as everyone familiar with computers and peripherals man actually expect that will soon experience a letdown. It is only possible to exchange this data via iTunes sync. That may be from Apple's perspective, the method of choice, from user point of view, it is unacceptable. Here one would have to actually pull more than one point, but that would again distort the overall review.
Conclusion: I personally would never buy the device, if I was not instructed by professional ways it (development for handhelds)
+ Perfect device for gaming on the train, bus, traveling
- Although there are cheaper alternatives
+ Very good battery life, beautiful design, touch screen
+ Very good as a communicator (email, chat, Skype, dates, etc.)
- Again, there are possibly better, more compact and cheaper alternatives
- Only very limited use as Notbook replacement. Far too little compatibility to proprietary.
- Absolutely unreasonable DRM solution from Apple, which is adjacent to expropriation.
Addendum:
You can now take an iPad without AppleID in operation. However kan so then not do much.
Apps can be downloaded and installed only on one end connected to an AppleID device.
Unless you have access to an MDM solution (eg, as a company unit)
