Hooker 'N' Heat (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Undoubtedly even a classic of the Blues, who already is 35 years old next year, but still sounds fresh and timeless.
Canned Heat and John Lee Hooker had played the late 60s several times already live together and the beginning of 1970 gave its record company also agreed to joint album with Canned Heat. The published in 1970 double-LP, which was recorded in the studios of Liberty LA in May, 1970, then fell even more than good.

There were less than 45 minutes class Delta blues solo by John Lee Hooker: Guitar, Vocals, Footstomping; on the second LP was jammed with Canned Heat. The highlight of this session is definitely the rd. 11 minute "Boogie Chillen No. 2" with fine guitar work of Henry Vestine and a hellish Harp solo by Alan Wilson, who unfortunately passed away shortly after the shooting (on the cover photo of the album is to see the band, along with hooker while Alan Wilson can be seen only in a photograph on the wall).

Other class title of the session with Canned Heat are "Whiskey and Wimmen '" Just You And Me "and" Let's Make It ". Overall, the album is very interesting for both John Lee Hooker, and Canned Heat fans, because the cooperation both from Delta Blues and Boogie just fits.
The sound of the shooting was already on the Doppelabum 1970 very well, which also applies to this CD (there is also a master CD of this album Hooker'N'Heat / Ultra disc, I do not know, but be even better sound should).
Who is more interested in the recordings with Canned Heat, there are Best of Hooker 'N' Heat, in which some tracks by John Lee Hooker (solo) missing.

The CD has a short booklet with the old liner notes of the LP from 1970 and new notes to the album.
I highly recommend this almost 90 minutes of first-class music only recommend to buy, especially since this album today enjoys classic status; and rightly so!
