Amused to Death (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The theme of the concept album "Amused to Death" goes back to the same point of the American media critic Neil Postman. Postman forcefully criticizes the increasing commercialization of the media coverage and the increas mendend blurring boundaries between reality and fiction (see also:

About the quality of the book may be divided on his (surely stand both Postman and Waters an enormous cultural pessimism from), but the album is fantastic.

Waters lyrics are excellent (What God Wants, Amused to Death, Too much rope, Perfect Sense, ....), the sound effects are terrific (on Perfect Sense is heard eg suddenly a whole football stadium choir singing) and the melodies are simple strong (amused to death, Perfect Sense, The Bravery of being out of range). About Waters song you can (as always) be divided - it is and remains a chant interrupted by phases "real singing". But for the effect of the album it is certainly beneficial.

All in all: an enormously strong album with haunting lyrics. Certainly not "easy listening". For sure "Amused to Death" even after hearing 100x. Toll!
