Beyond: Two Souls - Standard Edition - [PlayStation 3] (Video Game)

Customer Review

I was really looking forward to BTS and the three-quarter-hour demonstration on a game show blew me away, I had some goose bumps. Since the expectations to meet, of course, is difficult.
And since I was awarded Heavy Rain, it must put up with the comparison :)

FAST spoils your mood:

- At first I thought the new white spots for a good and playable idea afloat. However, I knew that not even that it is in the overall game almost exclusively limited thereto.

And so nervous the white dots because it is a very foolish and the most boring QTE ever. In Heavy Rain you had to imitate at least more complex (hand) movements. But just to show id direction of a point, they would be able to save the same because you can also get totally unrelated to the movement and action.

Aside from that one overlooks these white points in the gameplay quite easily.

Moreover Jodie automatically sets suddenly any actions although adjusted only the camera, because you accidentally pressed in the direction of a point.

- The camera is sometimes stubborn but still pretty sluggish. Time you can rotate the camera 360 degrees, sometimes only capture a small part, and it sucks to always have to try how far you can see a lot now.

Jodie's control and this rubber band camera stay the whole game to get used to.

In contrast, Aiden can be controlled very simply and easily afloat.

- The biggest downside for me are the quick time events: QuickTime Events not worthy of the name at Beyond Two Souls! That was very different in Heavy Rain.

It's hard not challenged, the game consists of 90% of it only to push the right stick ID right direction, ie in the direction of a white point!

It is very disappointing that you can as well as with any QTE fail (intentionally, because otherwise this never happens anyway) without it makes a difference in the story. It must not have to be on the final impact but that even the subsequent dialogue and the scene remain the same, regardless of whether QTE managed or not, is very disillusioning!

- The whole gameplay is simply toooo simple, almost a joke. One could also say exaggerated, there is virtually no. And when the player also recognizes the linearity of the gameplay, you have to abide by the very good story, not the desire to lose.

This assumes an all sense of challenge and the seriousness of which is in itself dramatic story behind this and a tear unfortunately often from the great and engaging atmosphere.

- The new slow-motion battle system is in principle a great idea staged, only it works often not properly because the direction in the heat of the action is not discernible. Often you press in the right direction but logically it is apparently the wrong :)
If, for example. an attack comes from above, one might think to press down in order to duck should fit. Forget it.
(Or, for example, playing pool. I will now push in the direction of the shot or first in the direction of Ausholens?)

- The feelings of the other cast members have not set anywhere. While I could empathize Freeman the anger and disappointment, mother-child relationship and the relationship with their two supervisors Nathan Dawkins and Cole thoroughly and build (s) was the love relationship (s) for me not understandable and rather forced. (Why should Jodie kiss someone whom she has only seen in a chapter and where she was severely disappointed?)

Some reactions of the characters do not fit od. Are inconclusive.

- It has to be the feeling rushed through the game because you will be forced through the script and continue jumping scenes suddenly, which is why you can not look at the great graphics often alone.

The time one has then for at repeated playthrough, because unfortunately the cutscenes can not skip! This chapter describes some really torture, especially when you want to get hold of trophies.

- The fact that the game loads continuously, the PS3 has sometimes been slightly overwhelmed and crashed a few times.

Simply WAU:

- Very great graphics! Unfortunately, you can not often take the time to explore the area, because it will be played by the script. eg. skips the scene after a short time without reason further od. can only be used once or objects not on and turn off.

Madness graphic elements (naturally at Quanticdream focusing on gestures, facial expressions and skin): snowflakes, suspended, light, outdoor environment, rain, tears, sweat, skin surface, veins, wrinkles, wet asphalt, the clothing, equipment and a few others graphic delicacy. In some you can really speak of SFX!

The movements are top notch and very realistic, almost perfect and natural.

- STORY: to play well the main reason BTS :)

Have narrisch, there are moments that are so fantastic and emotional implemented that one grinning happily sat in front of TV. But just as it can also be a press that has almost tears in his eyes.

Already Heavy Rain was told great, and both are in my opinion, 1: 1 as a great film realized. And although the BTS is certainly delicate, because a supernatural story far more difficult (realistic) is put to work without cheesy or stupid, it is really great succeeded here.

The staging is in spite of some shortcomings absolutely filmreif.

CONCLUSION:

Beyond: Two Souls varies between bombast graphics and big feelings that take the player and very average and really boring chapters that run.

Although I have known what I was letting myself (Story plus QTE), but I had (especially from the gameplay) expected more.

Also, I find anachronistic narrative style great if it makes sense and the drama increases. However, you have it here meant too well. The chapters are unsystematic and incoherent strung together. Here the story but jumps very va and groundless. There are only two stories, where you can see a direct point of reference to another chapter. All others could be played in any order without that it would make a difference narrative.

A great idea it would have been if he had been playing in chronological order after the end of the game all the chapters. That would have been a great bonus and certainly not particularly hard to do! (Suggestion to the programmers as a small update;))

Although some truly outstanding narrative, graphic and emotional scenes are so much remains just nice OD. At least graphically very nice.

Together with the insignificant QTE, which represent no challenge and commitment to the game, it's an experience from joyful and so-so.

Emotional and deeper you put in Heavy Rain, for one more at odds with the decisions taken, because they actually have consequences, and the like often do not.
In BTS it comes nowhere near as deep. No matter how many times you fail (even if you are daring enough and deliberately suppressed all or nothing wrong;)), it is impossible to fail, the game pushes Jodie inexorably towards the final. Although this is well thought out story-wise, but the player can now no longer afraid to Jodie who, in addition to the already so erbämlichen QTE. And Aiden's help.

Nevertheless, the experiment, this is not easy story to tell is to make the player / viewer credible and to kidnap him in this world, have succeeded even if the story serves some stereotypes.

Anyway, Beyond: Two Souls very nice to play and mostly emotionally gripping, even if the game is a bit short and the monotony by strikes (especially the repeated games, because you can not skip the cutscenes).

Overall good 3.5 4 star, with rashes to 5 stars but just about 3 stars in mediocrity and Fadesse.

Finally it goes on Rank: 5/5
