However unsatisfactory is the high power consumption of these cable solution in standby. Without infected cable to the battery of the Nexus 7 a day emptied by about 5%. With plugged cable to the battery per day drained by about 10%, that is twice as fast. It does not matter if the USB stick is plugged in or not. The Nexus 7 battery empties even by about 10% per day when only the bare cable plugged and no stick "gemounted" is.
If we use the Nexus 7 as I only every other day and leaves it in between With plugged cable in standby, the battery is drained to 20% if 7 the next time will the Nexus again into their own hands. In the end you get a single charge so three hours of video playback when the Nexus 7 uses only every other day for one hour. Of the 10-11 hour battery life in video playback that is specified in some test reports, one is thus miles away yet.
The increased standby power consumption through the cable can obviously be avoided that each new plug in the cable and withdraws after use. But this is not just a nuisance. It would not be good in the long run also the USB socket of the Nexus 7.
