Good players with (too) many annoyances in detail

Panasonic DMP-BDT500EG 3D Blu-ray player (2x HDMI 7.1 output, 2D / 3D, smartphone app, Wi-Fi integrated) (Electronics)

Customer Review

Background: In addition to the player / HDD recorder at the TV a quality player for the hi-fi rack was missing - for DVD / Blu-ray, but also for listening to music. The Panasonic has indeed indisputably a good picture and sound quality, but some things were annoying me extremely, so I finally sent him back.

Positives:
+ Good workmanship and material quality (aluminum front!)
+ Good picture and sound quality, good DVD upscaling
+ Good facilities (eg WLAN integrated, second HDMI output)

Negatives:
- Poor remote reception: The player is in a slightly oblique angle to the Main Listening. One must align the remote control almost exactly to the player, otherwise he will not accept any input. Very annoying, especially since all other devices respond at the same place properly on their respective remote control. With the door open, it is the way better, but wants you to leave permanently open?
- Remote Touchpad: harm in my opinion more than it uses. This is mainly because you never know anyway if he has accepted the entries or not - see above.
- Operation in general: Here's an example. The remote has a 10-button keypad, which would be so if you expect the CD to hear the "2" key pressed? But surely that title no. 2 will be played, as with many other devices. What makes this player: Just nothing.
- Poor display: The trend is yes (unfortunately) to always abgespeckteren displays, but the Panasonic is not even more title number. and time at the same time. Instead, you can switch a status button on the remote control between these two displays. So much space would surely have been even more? Compared to a 20-year-old CD player really an indictment of the manufacturer. Or you go back to a few cents saved in the production process?
- Streaming - a drama in three acts: Act 1: I notice that many formats, the "fact" dominates the device, not possible through DLNA (eg DivX). Act 2: At some point you come by chance via internet research on it that it "Map Network Drive" on it to go. So rumfrickeln again. I try to enter the network name from the NAS ... nil. It's all about the IP address. Oh great, which can each be different. After all the DivX files are now being offered. Act 3: A few tried, each time frozen image and complete crash after about 1/2 minute. Latest firmware is on it by the way.
- Noise: Well, the player has no fan, but the drive noise I do not as pleasant as many described. Still acceptable I would say. I would have expected in the price range better.

Conclusion: In a 100 euro device I might take into account when not everything is perfect. In a 300-Euro-device like the Panasonic I expect that such things are better solved.
