Aqualung (New Edition) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"In the beginning God created Man", so begin the controversial comments of Jethro Tull's legendary album "Aqualung". Ian Anderson continued his exploration of musical possibilities in the area of concept album. This happened at a time when he wrote some of his most famous pieces. Since the fourth album by Jethro three of the greatest rock classics ("Aqualung", "Cross-Eyed Mary", "Locomotive Breath") contains, it is also seen as a turning point for Ian Anderson and his troupe.

The concept consists of two parts, the split up on either side of the old vinyl disc. The first part tells of a lustful beggar named Aqualung (named after its rattling breath), while the second part is a stinging attack on organized religious communities. The comments draw the two themes together in a pseudobiblichen text, which states that if people recalled the spirit that founded the religion, they would get closer to the social outcasts, who are equal beings.

The title track is deservedly a classic. Although it is surprising that such a strange song with little catchy lyrics could make it to immortality me again and again. Impressively psychology is reinforced by the dynamics of the title. The second title is about a prostitute student is somewhat heavier.

The second part revolves around the main concept of the album - against organized religious communities. In "My God", "Hymn 43" and "Wind-Up" are Anderson's lyrics clearly and openly protest.

Musically beats on the album Martin Barres hour. He plays in the title track of his best solos and is clearly in his element when the crushing riffs come to "My God" and "Locomotive Breath".

The album is a good showpiece for Ian Anderson's songwriting skills. "Mother Goose", "Wond'ring Aloud" and "Hymn 43" are not the first songs to be remembered, but they all have a very high standard. The high quality of music is another reason that the album was an instant classic.
