Dillas "musical testament"

When this album came out at that time on Stones Throw it gave me mixed feelings on the one hand, the huge joy of new music
by Dilla secondly knowledge of his serious illness from which he died a few days later.
"Donuts" provides the last creative period of the great Jay Dee, 31 instrumentals that remain all under 2 minutes until Workinonit. Dilla used mainly 60 / 70s soul samples bsp from Dionne Warwick (Walkinonit) and appears again and again sound bites one he has just absorbed whether Promo Music or computer sounds all mixed jay and he does masterfully.
It is very important to hear this record at a time, and especially with repeated listening recognize the true size of the pieces.
Donut No.23 "One for Ghost" - which has is the beat the Ghostface Killah for his album Fishcale picked and from which "Whip You With A Strap" arose, Dilla wanted the Ghostface the beat gets even Ghostface has until Dillas death had experienced the dieer Beat heard already on donuts as crass is please !!!!!!
On tracks like Thunder can be heard again Dillas liking for drums he was the master of the drum sounds, no doubt, often sounded his kicks so hard and dry, often he hits a simple ne Bassline around ear like. on "Thelonious" from Common album "Like Water for Chocolate" which brings the facility and the pit for burning.
More surprising and unbelievable the point that Dilla produced this album in the hospital, you have to imagine a sick man still only requires to build beats to its boards and its Mpc when he could no longer make the pain to the produce was his mother Ma Dukes place for him and massaged the fingers that he could move in pain barely, goosebumps absolutely and it shows how much Jay Dee loved music.
That's why I call it his "musical testament" !!!!
This absolute love of music and to detail in his music as he has cut samples together, as he has crushed so and especially how he always has arranged that it was always new and fresh sound unique.
The music world has lost one of the great unfortunately the lifetime never received the attention he deserves.

An "donuts" have now all other producers with similar concepts have to measure and they usually fail tuned :-)
James Yancey God rest him peace.
