Joy Division unfortunately are long dead. The band died in 1980 with the suicide of the charismatic lead singer Ian Curtis who, shortly after a few months and hanged before the release of the milestone "Closer". However, their music conserved a small audience still the mood of the end of 70 years in which it was surprisingly not only heavy rock and free love. Black is this plate, through and through. In parts absolutely Furch tere quietly, cold and consequently not necessarily intended for unstable souls. That Joy Division are among the heroes of gloomy music, is undisputed. This is confirmed again and again surveys the scene independent music journalists: "Closer" is one of the best albums of the last decades. However, compared to other sizes of the scene such as Depeche Mode and The Cure is difficult. Joy Division showed much blacker areas and depths of the human soul, inseparable from the charismatic Ian Curtis in her musical oeuvre. Curtis characterized the music of Joy Division, both thematically and by his penetrating, cold singing style. Hope-and prospects was reflected repeatedly in his own. So "Closer" is a journey into the depths, in the depths of the human soul. "Isolation" and confusion runs like a red thread through the songs, accompanied by the minimalist and deep dark atmosphere of elgischen compositions. It is hard to escape the fascination once the access to the mood of the album is found. Joy Division show mercy on the target and restlessness of everyday life, without falling into the usual clichés. It's pretty hard turn go with the really bad depression embassies of the band at the beginning. Downright fun-loving people are therefore also able to decipher the meaning of this masterpiece nich. General Hörtipps can and I do not want to give with this album, because even without, in most cases, non-existent link between the individual pieces, such as a single murderous depressive composition sounds. Banned skipping !!! In any case, "Closer" is not suitable for casual sound. Too intense is the music, and too valuable. Finally, I would still recommend the firstfruits "Unknown Pleasures", which still stands as the zenith of the band for many fans. I like both very much, but I associate with "Closer" still some things that go on beyond the field of music ...
