His voice gives me a lot more here than before. As a big fan of Neal Schon I was happy that the album a particularly strong influence in turn to listen. While I was in Journey albums often had the impression that he has a little more space compared to the harmonies of Jonathan Cain and earlier Steve Perry guttäte, I always lacked in his solo albums, the counterweight to the rest of the band. This here now seems to be an optimal mix, a little more rock and guitar-oriented than previous Journey albums but far from being a side project of Neal. Now the album itself: Eclipse remembers the style of my favorite album Frontiers, but with a few interspersed progressive elements that are reminiscent of the first albums of the band. It sounds extremely bleak and is, as already mentioned, very guitar-heavy. It is often criticized that ballads and catchy melodies are missing. I do not agree. Sure it would be nice to hear a typical Journey ballad again. But on this album, it would simply not fit, and I think it also comes from fine without. Who tunes which remain in the ear, of course, is happiness / a matter of taste. I think in any case that "Resonate", "Edge of the moment" and "Chain of Love" great earwigs are. Alone the guitar riff from "Edge of the moment" I have for weeks not get out of your head. I think if you like Journey only songs like "Open Arms" or "Faithfully", should refrain from buying this disc prefer. But who, for example, the heavier songs of Frontiers or the very early albums like Journey, for this could be just the thing here, and at the one - join just below the Top 3 of Journey albums - just like me.
Finally, I must say that I was very happy, sometimes to hear a clean-produced CD, which is younger than myself. Apparently there are still producers who have this designation deserved.
