Permanent Waves (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Permanent Waves" makes in 1980 probably together with the Successor of "Moving Pictures" (1981) the most creative phase in the songwriting of Rush out. After bulky compositions 70s as Cygnus X-1 or 2112 to Lee, Lifeson and Peart now focus on more compact pieces. Your legendary songwriting skills genius in this narrow space leads to six brilliantly arranged, exciting and entirely verschienen in construction and expression songs, all of which are among the best in rock history.
SPIRIT OF RADIO, a maximum of Rush's audience classics, initiates the loose concept album about freedom of expression and freedom of music. A solid and absolutely addictive hard rock number with cool reggae deposits at the end (which bring the just mentioned freedom to express). Finally, there is still the witty Simon & Garfunkel twisted quote from "The Sound of Silence": "And the words of the profit were written on the subway walls", the criticism of the increasing commercialization of the radio programs should express.
It follows that by drummer Neil Peart rhythmically wonderfully varied crafted FREE WILL, the course also includes a classic with Geddy Lee's vocals abnormal high in the great Head Bridge. Since then, the fans cheer at concerts already in avid anticipation, when the first notes are struck up by FREE WILL ...
Jacob's Ladder is named after the phenomenon by breaking light beams through clouds and tried to express this musically - a refreshingly unconventional constructed song with wonderful structure, an enchanting game with energy and full of magic - impressive and absolutely magical!
Followed by two quiet songs - with Entre Nous, the Lyrics- author Neil Peart as an expression of the relationship between band and audience sees, and the semi-ballad with a DIFFERENT STRINGS cool groove and Alex Lifeson unique guitar solo. The lyrics for the song were taken at exceptionally not by Neil Peart, as incorrectly stated in the booklet, but by Geddy Lee.
The epic masterpiece NATURAL SCIENCE with its impressive by developing and absolutely sublime instrumental parts completes this unique album.
"Permanent Waves" is an incomparable masterpiece studded with an infinite number of ideas and musical innovation in a crisp rocking packaging, exactly between the epic longtracks 70 and emerging keyboard sounds of the 80s. It is probably one of the works that bands like Dream Theater have most shaped and influenced.
