The reason I've gained this lens, is that I want to change from crop to full format. Currently I still use the EOS 7D and therefore compare the quality of the lens based on the EOS 7D and EOS 100D (second body). Q1 2015 I want to move to the 6D.
I've tested the Focus and could no Back or Front Focus notice on the scale. It fits exactly at 0 and has no focus millimeter difference. That is already times class! The AF is also more than fail. He meets exactly at each position and more than exactly! Likewise, the Stepping Motor. Super quiet, you can intervene at any time, and above all: faster than the ultrasonic motor, which I had recently in Canon 15-85 IS USM in it.
The picture quality is more than sharp. The corners of the picture are on the 7D, so CROP, as sharp, no distortion, almost no until no CA (less than the 15-85 IS USM) - more than happy!
Whats here to say - the part packs a punch! The price is in my opinion almost set too low when you compare the L-series. For me, the L-lenses are not prime examples when it comes to image quality.
Quality of a processing perspective is excellent. Sure, that's all plastic. But who knows Canon, who knows that Canon plastic processed erklassig. And so it is here also. It feels high quality, has a good weight and the impression is class.
A small gripe I have, however: Why do I install a lock-lock, which only works with 24mm? Here the meaning is not very extended. However, there are manufacturers like Sigma, which have incorporated the same in the lenses. For me as an automotive photographer working exclusively with tripod and polarizing filter, where at the end of several photo-ranks yield a single image, this function would be of great benefit. However, there is no point where I now depart a star.
I was completely convinced the lens. It shines in every respect and has 5 stars absolutely deserved! Highly Recommended! Now I'm still waiting for the lens hood EW-83M is available in Germany. Some stores lists the iris already, but with utopian prices of 40 euros or more, which the yoghurt pot is clearly not value. Also fulfills the purpose of a lens hood to this objective in terms of Crop cameras is not quite exact, since the focal length is anyway still changed by a factor of 1.6. Still brings a lens hood a lot and should not be missing on lenses! I hope this will be soon.
Once I switched to full-frame, I will revise this post again!
