Sweetest Heyer upon earth: If I had a list of my top 5 favorite Heyer novels make (which is not so easy, as the grande dame Heyer has almost written only excellent stories), then Devil's Cub would definitely be with us. In usual exquisite writing style, bursting with irony and witty twists, with lovingly cynical outlined characters, Georgette Heyer tells a heartwarming not too sprawling story about two young people who have sought and found and come together after a confused coming and going finally. And despite their bizarre relationship, despite contrary efforts of the estimated Duchess, despite the unbearable ordinary mother-to-be, and even in spite of the stern Duke highest self.
What these high-profile Heyer Ling apart for me of all the other golden Heyer novels, is the mega-upper-super-sweet, heartwarming love story and absolutely touching happy ending. A so-nice cheesy and touching happy ending I have long read any more. Five 24karätige Heyer-stars from me!
German edition of the novel was published under the title "escapades". There is also a third novel about the family of Avon. His name is "Barbara and the Battle of Waterloo" and deals with the granddaughter of vicious villain.
