April 1985: Ernst Haefliger is 65 and he returns to the fortepiano Schubert accompanied by Jörg Ewald Dähler. Worn, veiled by the years, his voice is no less beautiful: it is only more naked, more stripped. And here goes straight to the heart of things: emotion, melancholy and nostalgic pain. It's heartbreaking and standing there one of most beautiful Schwanengesang available. No need to play the game of comparisons: I know Hotter, Dieskau, Goerne, Güra, etc., but it is unlike any other.
NB: at the same time, Haefliger and Dähler also engraved the other two major cycles and a wonderful recital: Die Schöne Müllerin, Winterreise, Lieder.
