However, I did not succeed with all Netgear firmware versions a faster wireless connection than 72 Mbit / s
reach.
The culprit is a faulty mE implementation of so-called "neighbor friendly fashion".
If multiple wireless networks active in the area, is connected with a certain interference level back to only 1 channel and only 20 MHz channel Bandreite.
Although I have some wireless networks foreign near, but either get these only weakly over or work on other channels.
When Netgear firmware is ...
- The "neighbor friendly mode" permanent, invisible and can not be disabled (as in Fritz and other!)
- Me set the threshold value for the interference level too low
However, it was anyway planned to operate the WNR3500Lv2 with an alternative firmware and is in this device
here a Tomato-Mod the 1st choice.
Since the WNR3500Lv2 is generously equipped with Flash / RAM (128MB / 128MB), I'm looking for a
comprehensive all-in-one version chosen.
I recommend this: "Tomato by Shibby for WNR3500Lv2 V108 AIO" new Kernel 2.6
The installation went very smoothly and immediately after setting up the basic values I had a wireless connection with steady
150 MBit / s, 40MHz channel Bandreite with the channels 11 + 7 and acceptable interference level.
The router running smoothly since about 2 weeks, without any disconnection or other abnormalities.
Speak for the router:
(+) With an alternative firmware, a device with characteristics of the Oberliga
(+) Hardware: Broadcom 480MHz MIPS CPU and per 128MB Flash / RAM
(+) Stable operation (at least so far, since 2 weeks)
(+) Good wireless coverage, even without external antennas
(+) And power supply unit are only lukewarm
(+) Trendy design in black piano lacquer finish
(+) Large community (Netgear and alternative firmware)
(+) Very attractive price
Less like:
(-) Insufficient with original firmware WLAN functionality
(-) Original firmware sometimes a little hakelig during operation
(-) To flash, colorful front LEDs
Nevertheless, I forgive 5 stars because it was planned vornerein to use an alternative firmware.
The garish front LEDs I will darken a bit more discreet with a foil. (From inside)
Who only requires a single-band wireless router, which I can highly recommend the WNR3500Lv2 with Tomato-Mod.
Update 21/05/2013
------------------
The router is working correctly for 3 weeks 24/7.
On 05/18/2013 an improved update of the OA firmware was released.
tomato-Netgear 3500Lv2-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5X - 109-AIO.chk
The update process went as expected with no problems and the necessary adjustments were done quickly.
