I loved this book having read in my youth, and then reread as an adult, emotions have remained intact. The style is thin, childish, but upsetting, it transports the reader to the heart of the life of this child who shares her daily life in times of war and famine in Japan via its written correspondence to his family. We guess between the lines a lot by reading adult, child you discover another way of living and this invites to step back ...
