It is (at least in the dark blue version) unobtrusively, small enough for your pocket, sturdy, weatherproof and therefore always at hand. When shooting the children they do not feel bothered at parties succeed wonderful snapshots and movies and even in street scenes in the dark, the brightness is not enough by streetlights and neon signs. The image quality is after my phones in nothing. The phone would be just too unwieldy, is sensitive and must not get wet. Advantage is, of course, the wide-angle, which makes a viewfinder actually dispensable.
OK, for action shots, the RE is also suitable, but their strength I see in the ability to make relatively unobtrusive video "from the life of" the family. With HTC's Zoe can cut together comfortably short videos and for example with the free program "Windows Movie Maker" a bit more work, but chic.
I also have a GoPro, but they barely use because it simply looks at martial. The HTC RE I prefer, because it is simply more elegant and, above all, does not say, "Look, I have a GoPro and now make important action videos". Finally, I want a juicy, fast video and do not specify. The subtle is what turns me on the RE and the truly successful, unusual design. That simple external course up to 2 buttons and 2 Winz LEDs can not offer many adjustment possibilities, I like to take into account. There are, finally, the app that can do that. Since I am not a diver, but only splashers that water resistance up to 1.5 m is sufficient. Who actually wants more, buy up the divers set.
Other features that I find really nice:
- Time-lapse recording (just once filming your own home, as sun and clouds wander around to it; to best a cheap Powerbank connect)
- The slow motion is paying off in the swimming pool by the great three-minute video of children
- Remote viewfinder, eg for alignment with static long exposures
- Live streaming on Youtube (not tried)
- Automatic image rotation (when shooting just above the ground, just in case the handle has to be kept up)
- Automatic backup on Phone, Dropbox or Google Drive saves Kabelgefummel
But where there is light, there is shadow, which is conditioned, however, only through the software and will hopefully brightened by future updates:
- The connection to the phone takes 20 Seconds simply too long, is often not stable and breaks in transmission from happy.
- Some phones are apparently not supported, as well as the Nexus 7 (Update: Since January it works again with the Nexus).
- The app is currently only with more recent Android versions (from 4.3) available
- When automatic vertical rotation may cause freezing of the camera, which is only to eliminate with hard reset.
ACCESSORIES:
