I'm a fan since the good old days Awake and every time a new DT album comes out I'll kill myself for months by hearing the old records in the mood. My wife is annoyed (stands on Latin and Radio Pop, therefore not compatible) and it spent a lot of time in front of the PC in the relevant forums to miss so no new information or a preliminary review. With 33 years I feel every time something by not grow - but it now goes once around DT, for me as a musician of the greatest musical influence in my life. Since 1994, there are few days that take place entirely without anything of DT, 17 concerts have been visited so far. The fact that the DT fan community in this regard but somehow equals with the fan bases of the old boy bands, it can not be entirely dismissed.
Last year world collapsed for me: MP leaves the band. I as a drummer was on the ground (similar to "Robbie increases in TT from"). I met MP in the years several times, speaking, 5 sticks and a signierstes Snare Drum Head of him adorn my wall of fame. And now he is no longer with DT ?? Difficult to imagine.
But if I'm honest to myself that drum parts of MP was already a good deal become predictable in the course of recent years. When I then better to know little by little Mangini (ever seen that makes an eddy with one hand? Inconceivable!), My anticipation grew little by little.
The whole became crazy by the preliminary interviews, the official teaser, by OtBaA which I found better by a mile, as Constant Motion or Rite of Passage, through all the interviews (the track by track descriptions of JLB and JP have me made) to an extreme anticipation as I (since Scenes ???) had not for many albums.
And now it's there.
The new masterpiece.
Since Scenes or smears SDoiT I have not been more tied from the first to the last minute so. On SDoiT are for me a few lengths in it (end of Misunderstood as an example), this does not exist here. The music is incredibly sophisticated. In the interview in advance were told that was gone with the MP "DT Police", who said: "So we do that!", Quote JR - this shows. Everything has its place, everything has a meaning and purpose. The music has places that finally not again "We do on bleak" sounds, but extremely "uplifting" is life-affirming. The chorus of Breaking all illusions is for me one of the best moments in this respect, since no Ahung .... so far I can not think back.
Do not misunderstand. Each DT album is much more important than any other album of my favorite bands like Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Ayreon, etc. But this album is not held for possible step towards a new for me (old?) Dimension. Incredibly balanced, with no wasted minute (Day after day ...), with several spine-tingling highlights, a great tension (what a finale - only Far from Heaven - the rest in front of the tower, then Breaking all illusions - one of the top future 5 DT songs - and then out of nowhere the beautiful Beneath the Surface).
Simple conclusion: buy, buy, buy.
As Derek Sherinian once said so nicely on the issue before the Once in a lifetime concert: "Derek, what are you doing?" - "I am making history - and you?" - Here has been sustained by DT finally back to those times!
Headphones on, lights off and have fun at the roller coaster ride of the year.
