Customer Review

Already with his first two albums Prince was musically brilliant, but lacked even a personal style. Especially For You (1978) sounds mostly to the then typical funk and soul sound of the late 70s. However, it was with "Soft And Wet" a classic Prince song already there. The highly successful Prince album from 1979 acts despite some great songs like "I Wanna Be Your Lover" or "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" Too Smooth and shapeless. In addition, he has here, for the most part set to secure Soft Soul numbers after the commercial failure of his debut album, which at that time were very successful in the charts. From "Dirty Mind" but Prince copied no one left from that album on, he was really independent and unique, and he made no concessions to the more mass taste. The album sounds raw and barren, but it also offers Prince in absolute purity. Whatever Prince has identified: its authenticity, his bite, his instrumental prowess or its radical lack of restraint in the texts and the interpretation - In this album, everything is already in place, not in the early stages, but already in completion. "Dirty Mind" at that time was a total flop commercially. Nevertheless, this album is a gem, and what a. Because here was not gecasteter, beautiful singing puppet at work, but a real artist who expressed some truth and genuine, something has real musical importance.
