Doom Metal? Death Metal? Or both?

Shades of God (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Paradise Lost have already created with their first album "Lost Paradise" an interesting genre mix that combines the best ingredients of Doom and Death Metal.
"Shades Of God" is not to look exactly like its predecessor "Gothic" as a continuation of the concepts of the predecessor discs. Was "Lost Paradise" still very viscous, even Black Sabbath-heavy, one combined with "Gothic" (as the name suggests) the center difficult riffs with gothic vocal accompaniment.
In "Shades ..." the old song structures have been expanded with some new features. The songs are not so tough, are varied and constantly rising sales figures for the first two disks appear to have withdrawn the two main songwriters, to make the song something catchy. Unfortunately, to this the fact that not all the riffs even "invented" were, but were sent stolen and installed in a few hooks.
Surprised? Well, that Endriff of "Mortals Watch The Day" is an oblique version of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. The song "No Forgineness" is musically a slightly distorted version of "More" from the Sisters of Mercy, who had the early 90s a few hits in the charts, and so on, UWS. etc ...
Do not get me wrong, I think the CD class (have the band in 1994 also experienced live) and would the above-mentioned items, as well as "Pity The Sadness" and "As I Die" call as Anspieltipps and unconditionally recommend the whole disc every metalhead only indicated on this CD already drifting in commercial music from which I could not understand as a fan of the first hour and wanted ...
CONCLUSION: a good work for me the "last great" work of Holmes & Co.
